Family searches for remains of Lacambia Toomer

DAWSON, Ga. (WALB) – Since Lacambria Toomer disappeared in 2022, Melissa Thornton, Lacambria's mother, has been searching for signs of her.

On Saturday, June 1, the family conducted another search for Lacambria starting at 8 a.m. on New Hope Road in Dawson. Melissa leads the research.

“I’m not giving up,” Melissa said.

Melissa's determination to find her missing daughter's remains drives her to continue her search almost two years after her daughter's disappearance.

“The goal of this search today will be to find her. Hoping and praying that we find her. That’s the last known address she was at,” Thornton said.

Lacambria Toomer's alleged killer is the father of her child who remains behind bars as the prime suspect. Toomer's mother describes her daughter's case as difficult and believes more should have been done to help find her daughter.

“If I could have gotten the GBI involved, that would have been some help.” Right now I need all the help I can get because I don't know exactly where to look anymore. I don’t know,” Thornton said.

Terrica Moore, a mother who participated in this research, wants Melissa Thornton to know she has the support of the community behind her.

“Imagine if it was a member of your family. You would like someone to do whatever it takes to help you find a missing family member. I'm not related to the family but I have a heart. If you know something, say something. I believe there are people who know something,” Moore said.

August will mark the two-year anniversary of Lacambria Toomer's disappearance and her family is asking the public to come forward if you know anything that could help move this case forward.

Anyone with information about Lacambria's case is asked to call (229) 436-TIPS.
