Family remembers fun-loving teen who drowned in pool

LEHI He was already a natural leader.

This could be seen in the soccer video of 13-year-old Beckham Cram in the middle of a team huddle, shouting instructions and encouragement.

“Above all, he wanted to have fun. He searched everywhere he went,” said Marc Cram, Beckham’s father.

Beckham was having a lot of fun on the football field, or any sports field to be honest.

But his mother said Beckham also had a softer side.

“He did a talent show at school and he sang 'Barbie Girl,'” Morgan Cram said. “Everyone told me the best thing about the talent show was him singing 'Barbie Girl'.”

Beckham's outgoing and fun-loving personality makes it even harder to believe he's gone, after drowning in a swimming pool.

“It’s devastating,” Marc Cram said.

Ribbons line the Lehi neighborhood where he lived, and flowers upon flowers continue to be delivered to the family home.

His parents, who are divorced but have remained friends with Beckham and his siblings, can't believe they will now only hear his laugh and his voice in the videos.

“It’s hard to believe just because of the person he was and the light he brought. It was a really difficult three days,” said Marc Cram.

From now on, it is the memories of Beckham that will live on.

“I always say he’s his dad’s best friend, but he was my momma’s boy,” Morgan Cram said. “He loved love and I mean this kid would go to the grocery store with me and carry the groceries, take them upstairs for me, everything, do anything, as long as he had hot tamales and a chocolate bar, everything was fine.”

It's these little things that mean so much more now.

The family also appreciates the support of the community and those who knew Beckham.

A *GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family with expenses.

The family is planning a “Celebration of Life” at the Experience Events Center in Provo on Sunday, with a viewing at 9 a.m. and funeral services at 11 a.m.

The family had to move to a larger venue due to the large number of people interested in coming.

“He wouldn’t want tears and just laughter,” his father said. “So we're going to pay our respects but we're going to do it in the best way possible for Beck.”
