Family offers $1,000 reward for identification of car involved in hit-and-run that injured teen

The teen suffered chest pain, nausea, a concussion and whiplash from the hit-and-run.

SHAVANO PARK, Texas — A Shavano Park woman is offering a $1,000 reward to anyone who can help identify the car involved in her son's hit-and-run.

On Saturday, May 18, Ivin Vasquez was driving on NW Military Hwy in Shavano Park when a black, compact SUV allegedly pulled out of a residential driveway, colliding with Vasquez's car as they were turning left.

“I lost consciousness for a few minutes,” he said. “The neighbors had pulled me out of the smoking vehicle. I came out very disoriented, and I really didn't feel like I was there. I was so confused.”

Vasquez suffered chest pain, nausea, a concussion and whiplash from the hit-and-run.

“The driver took off and did not render aid when Ivan was injured,” said Angelica Vasquez, Ivin’s mother. “So I want the person arrested. I want their vehicle repaired and I want to be able to have some sort of normalcy in their life, like other things we're experiencing at the time.”

The car is badly damaged. The front door does not open and the front bumper is damaged. The car was a gift from Ivin's parents for his high school graduation and probably the last big gift his father would give him.

“It’s the first car his dad bought him,” Angelica Vasquez said. “His father is currently battling terminal stage four cancer and is living his last days, even his last months. We are preparing our lives because we no longer have the means to live here, in this region. He has to quit his job and drop out of summer school because I have no way to get him to work or school.”

Shavano Park City Police are investigating the hit-and-run.

In a statement, a police spokesperson wrote:

“We have opened a case and launched an investigation, which is ongoing. We are optimistic that we will be able to identify the suspected driver and would ask anyone with more information to contact the Town of Shavano Park Police Department.”
