Family of worker shot dead amid massive Miami building fire speaks out – NBC 6 South Florida

The family of an employee who was shot to death at a Miami apartment complex by a suspect who also set the building on fire said they were relying on their faith to hope he pulls through.

NBC6 spoke exclusively with the godfather of Feder Biotte, the Temple Court Apartments employee who was shot and killed Monday morning.

The sponsor specifies that Biotte, 30 years old, is a maintenance technician in the building.

Authorities believe the same suspect shot the worker and intentionally set the building on fire, leading to a massive firefighter response that lasted all day.

The Temple Court Apartments fire is Miami's first third-alarm fire in 25 years, Mayor Francis Suarez said.

Reynold Romeus, Biotte's godfather and cousin, said that when he learned of the fire at the downtown apartments, he immediately called Biotte, who did not respond. Romeus later learned that Biotte had been shot.

He said doctors removed a bullet from Biotte's stomach, but he was unresponsive. Today, the family is praying for a miracle.

“I hope God makes him recover faster than people expect because I know he's a very nice man, a hard worker, I don't think he's the one who's supposed to be hit like that,” Romeus said.

The family describes Biotte as a hard worker who came to the United States from Haiti in 2021. He was educated in the United States and studied building maintenance.

He has a 9-year-old son who still lives in Haiti.

“He loved his family. He's a very good man. That's all I can say. He never had any problems with anyone. I really don't know why someone shot him like that “Romeus said.

Biotte remained at the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital Monday evening.

Authorities said a suspect was in custody, but did not release his identity or provide other information about what led to the shooting and fire.
