Family of missing woman demands answers

CARTER COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) – A family is searching for answers after Frances Byrd disappeared in mid-June.

A golden alert was issued for Byrd last week.

The Carter County Sheriff's Office said Friday that Frances Byrd, 72, was kicked out of a nursing and rehabilitation center by a family member against medical advice. Officials said she “was not of sound mind when she left.”

Charity Barker, his daughter-in-law, said Byrd suffered from several health problems.

She is 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighs approximately 240 pounds. She has white hair and was last seen wearing a blue sweatshirt, blue sweatpants, slippers and a walker.

Byrd was last seen in the Cedar Run area of Carter County. She was seen leaving her home in a “newer white passenger car” on June 11, according to deputies.

Barker said his mother-in-law's disappearance shook their family.

“It’s simply unimaginable. I just feel like we're in a dream and we won't wake up. This is completely out of character for Franny, my mother-in-law,” Barker said. “When we didn’t hear from her, we just knew something inside was wrong.”

Byrd's family said she was known for her big heart.

“She is a loving woman. She would never do anything to harm anyone. She would always give you her last dollar if she had one,” Barker said.

Anyone with information on Byrd's whereabouts is asked to call Carter County 911 at 606-474-6222 or their local 911.

“If you see or know something, then please, it could be the smallest detail that could turn into the biggest lead. Don’t think it’s nothing,” Barker said.
