Family of California tourist Albert Calibet missing in Greece joins search for remote island plot

An American tourist has been found dead on a Greek island, while a separate search continues for a retired Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy who remains missing.

Albert Calibet of Hermosa Beach has not been seen since Tuesday, when he went hiking on the island of Amorgos. His brother expresses his frustration, saying he receives no help from the American or Greek governments.

Calibet's girlfriend Debbie and her brother Oliver went to Greece to help with the search.

“It’s very rough terrain,” Oliver said. “We're all exhausted. There aren't enough of us. There aren't enough boots on the ground.”

Five foreign visitors to Greek Falls have died or gone missing in recent weeks due to a heatwave in the area. Authorities are warning visitors to take precautions.

Another American tourist who disappeared last Tuesday was found dead this weekend on the island of Meraki, near Corfu. An autopsy is underway to determine the cause of death.

Calibet was a frequent visitor to the island and an experienced hiker. He was supposed to meet a friend for lunch after his hike, but he never arrived. This friend alerted the Greek authorities who launched the search, which is now in its sixth day.
