Family hopes for safe return of missing elderly Scott County couple

ROBBINS, Tenn. (WVLT) – As of Saturday night, the whereabouts of an elderly Scott County couple remain unknown.

Larry Young, 73, and Beverly Young, 74, were riding their ATVs when their daughter told them they had a tire problem and called for help.

The family friend was unable to locate the Scott County couple as investigators began searching Brimstone Mountain.

“It’s a mountain with multiple trails that you can ride to multiple different mountains with different trails,” said Ethan Webb, Morgan County EMA director.

Becki Young, the couple's daughter, said her father has lung cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy while her mother has Parkinson's disease.

Young said both of her parents use canes to walk, which concerns her since they have been missing for several days.

“It's an unbearable worry. They have too many health problems,” Young said.

Investigators said the couple's ATV was found more than an hour from their Scott County home, in an area that is not easily accessible.

Webb said if people want to help with the search, they can come to Mount Zion Baptist Church in Sunbright on Herbert Shannon Road, where their command center is located.

The TBI has also issued a Silver Alert for them as the search continues. So far, they have used helicopters, drones and dozens of first responders who have hiked and driven their own ATVs across the mountain.

Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's office at 423-663-0409 or the TBI at 1-800-TBI-FIND.
