Family creates GoFundMe for Inglewood brothers killed in crash near Dockeweiller State Beach

INGLEWOOD — The family of two brothers killed in a head-on collision near Dockweiller State Beach has created a GoFundMe to raise money to cover burial and funeral costs.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office identified David Ceja, 17, who was pronounced deceased at the scene, and Hector Ceja Jr., 15, who died at a local hospital from his injuries on June 5.

Both attended Morningside High School and David was scheduled to graduate the day after the horrific accident on June 6. His family accepted his diploma during the ceremony.

The Inglewood Unified School District released a statement in response to their deaths.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of two Inglewood Unified School District students following a fatal motor vehicle accident,” the district said in a statement. “The district is providing psychological support to our school communities during this difficult time. Our deepest condolences go to the families affected by this profound loss.

“It’s devastating,” Morningside High School principal Kiwiana Cain said during the opening ceremony. “We are awarding him his diploma today because he deserved it. He deserved it. He was supposed to be here with us today.

Firefighters were dispatched around 7:55 p.m. to the 8800 block of Vista Del Mar, near Dockweiler State Beach, to investigate a collision involving five people, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Nicholas Prange.

Upon further assessment, firefighters discovered two trapped individuals who had to be rescued.

Three victims were transported to a hospital in critical condition, while a fourth victim was transported to a hospital listed in fair condition.

The two other minors and a woman in her thirties were transported to hospital in unknown condition.

Details about what led to the collision were not available, but witnesses said one of the drivers may have passed out and crashed into oncoming traffic.

Authorities said there was no evidence to indicate any of the drivers were under the influence.
