Family and community rally to find missing Amherst County woman Elsie Wiggington

A family is calling for closure as they try to bring home a missing Amherst County woman.

Elsie Wiggington has been missing for a year this month, and there are still no answers, but her family is determined.

They said they were desperate for answers, so on Saturday they took matters into their own hands.

“Me and the community have started a search today. We're going to be handing out flyers to the local community and the Elsie neighborhood, just to raise awareness and hopefully get some answers,” said Victoria Seal, Elsie's half-sister. , said.

Those close to her said that before her disappearance, Wiggington feared for her life and considered fleeing to Maryland, but she never showed up. Her family filed a missing person's report with the Amherst County Sheriff's Office almost a year ago.

Now the office, led by a new sheriff, is taking a closer look at the case.

I'm happy with what the new administration is doing. The previous administration really dropped the ball and the new administration recognizes that as well.

Seal said she hopes that by sharing the flyers, someone will come forward.

“It's going to keep Elsie's name at the top of everyone's lists because it brings awareness to the community and also to people who may know the answers so they can come forward,” she said.

Sakieya Royster joined the group on Saturday. She said she felt the sheriff's office could have done more from the start, and she was willing to help in any way possible.

I think it's very important to let people know that we have not forgotten, that we will not forget, and that until someone has the courage to speak out, we will continue to press until 'so we can find her and bring her home, and you know, just get the justice that everyone deserves.

Elsie's family said she was a dedicated nurse and would never have let her nursing license expire. So they are extremely worried about her.

“We're going to keep going until we find our answers. We won't stop until we find out what happened, and if anyone did something, we'll find out who did it done and we won't stop until we do it,” Seal said. .

The Amherst County Sheriff's Office said this is a very active investigation and they are doing everything they can to find Elsie.

If you know anything about her whereabouts, you are welcome to contact them.
