Fake Degree Scam: 2 Teachers Sentenced to 5 Years in Jail for Fake Degree Scam | Dehradun News

Dehradun: Chief Magistrate Rudraprayag has sentenced two government teachers to five years in jail for getting jobs with fake educational documents. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 each on them and remanded them in judicial custody. After examining the documents, the court found that Vikram Singh and Shiv Singh Rana had presented fake Bachelor of Education (BEd) degrees, allegedly issued by Chaudhary Charan Singh (CCS) University in Meerut. The case came to light following a complaint against 19 government teachers for allegedly getting fake degrees. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted in July 2018 to conduct an investigation. Till date, 12 teachers have been jailed for similar offences, while seven remain under the SIT scanner. Rana and Singh, who work as assistant teachers in Rudraprayag, had FIRs lodged against them by the basic education department on July 9, 2018 and August 14, 2018, respectively. They were arrested on November 20, 2018, but were released on bail within a month, on December 3. Verification of their educational qualifications with CCS University revealed that the degrees were fake. The accused had got their government jobs in 2005, claiming that they were regular students of the university and were falsely accused. However, the university provided an affidavit denying issuance of any degree to the accused and confirming that the names were not in the university records. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court convicted Singh and Rana under sections 420 (cheating) and 471 (fraudulently using forged documents) of the Indian Penal Code.
