Fact or fiction: Trey McNutt is an Ohio State tight end

Rivals National Recruitment Director Adam Gorney is joined by a national recruitment analyst Greg Smithdirector of national rankings Adam Friedman And Paul Strélow from TigerIllustrated.com to tackle three topics and determine whether they think each statement is FACT or FICTION.

1. Trey McNutt will take his visits but he is close to Ohio State.

Trey McNutt

Gorney's take: FACT. Close to lockout might be a bit too much, but after a whole bunch of visits — like USC this weekend — I guess Trey McNutt realizes Ohio State has everything he needs. research and that he can perpetuate the legacy there. The Buckeyes have done a phenomenal job injecting defensive backs into the NFL, they are still national title contenders and the Cleveland (Ohio) Shaker Heights star player could do it all close to home where his parents could come watch him play . There could be some intrigue in Los Angeles for NIL deals and the SEC is always a conference to watch, but I think Ohio State is at the top of the list.

Smith's Point of View: FICTION. When you look at the surface of this recruiting, it appears to be a layup for Ohio State. McNutt is a talented in-state prospect the Buckeyes are after. He plays a position that the team has historically placed in the NFL. His father was a three-time letter winner at Ohio State.

However, McNutt marches to the beat of his own drum. The dynamic point guard has an official visit scheduled with USC this weekend. He praised Georgia, Oregon and Texas A&M. It won't surprise anyone if he ends up at Ohio State. But I certainly wouldn't say it's a lock that needs to happen at the moment. In fact, I'd bet the field against the Buckeyes here.

2. There are more than two five-star receivers in the 2025 class.

Jaime Ffrench (Greg Smith/Rivals.com)

Gorney's take: FACT. There were five five-star receivers in the 2024 class and there could have been more because it was an incredibly loaded group and while I don't think the 2025 crop is that good, there are probably more than two receivers five stars. Dakorien Moore is basically a five-star lock because he's been so good and then there will be discussions about Winston Watkins Jr. and many others in the future. I would love to see more of Caleb Cunningham at national events, Jaime Ffrench will be in the conversation with Vernell Brown, Dallas Wilson and others. I guess we'll end up with three.

Friedman's take: FACT. Dakorien Moore and Winston Watkins remain the only two five-stars in the 2025 class but my gut feeling is that there are at least three and probably four in this class. Caleb Cunningham looks like he could be an exceptional film talent and it would be great to see him up close at some point before the rankings are final. Jaime Ffrench, Dallas Wilson and Talyn Taylor are also huge prospects who are also on the verge of earning their fifth star.

3. Georgia and Ohio State are enticing, but Clemson is the team to watch most for five-star OL David Sanders Jr.

David Sanders Jr. (Rivals.com)

Gorney's Point of View: FICTION. There's a very good chance David Sanders Jr. ends up at Clemson. He likes the culture there, how to coach Dabo Swinney runs his program, he has developed a great relationship with the coaching position Matt Luc and he's friendly with a lot of high-profile targets. But I'm just not ready to say Clemson is the team to watch “most” when recruiting him yet, as Ohio State and Georgia make him a top priority and Tennessee might have the edge Right now. Clemson is here and it's great to have him back on campus but this battle could last a lot longer.

Strelow's point of view: FICTION. Clemson had the momentum early in the calendar year, but when Sanders arranged a return trip to Tennessee in early April for a second straight weekend, it signaled a strong turnaround. Much fanfare followed subsequent trips to Ohio State, Georgia and Nebraska, but our reporting indicated the Vols maintained a commanding advantage regardless. Tennessee is the team to beat during the official visit streak.
