'Exceptionally dangerous' TikTok challenge puts Florida teens in handcuffs

US News

Two Florida teenagers were identified and arrested after surveillance video captured them kicking in the doors of residents' homes as part of a TikTok challenge.

The Hernando County Sheriff's Office said the two 15-year-olds were arrested on multiple counts of burglary of a habitation after admitting to kicking in the front doors of four homes.

Over the past two weeks, Spring Hill deputies said they investigated four reports of unknown individuals walking up to the front door of a residence early in the morning and kicking in the door, causing damage.

Deputies said the impact of the kicks caused the door to open in some cases.

Police said the two boys, who lived within walking distance of the four homes, admitted to kicking in the front doors.

Authorities say a teen told detectives he kicked doors in response to a trend he saw on social media called the “Door Kick Challenge.”

The teen also said he never intended to enter any of the homes.

“This situation was exceptionally dangerous on many levels,” said Sheriff Al Nienhuis.

“First, there was a very good chance that these young men were shot and killed by a homeowner legally defending the home. Second, if this had happened, the owner would have been charged with killing two teenagers who were participating in a stupid activity.

Authorities said the two teens were arrested on four counts of burglary of a dwelling.

They were both taken to the Hernando County Detention Center where they were processed and then released to the custody of their parents.
