Ex-MLB star Todd Helton sentenced to 2 days in jail for drunk driving

Colorado Rockies legend Todd Helton will serve two days in jail following a drunk driving arrest in 2019, according to USA Today's Scott Gleeson.

Helton, 46, was arrested in Tennessee last March after crashing his car into a pole. Helton was issued a summons for driving under the influence. He said he had taken an Ambien earlier in the day. The officer on duty said Helton was driving around with a cup in his car that smelled of alcohol.

Helton ultimately pleaded guilty to first-offense drunken driving, according to USA Today.

Helton later pleaded guilty to first-offense drunken driving, earning him a sentence of 11 months and 29 days of unsupervised probation and having his license suspended for one year. According to McDermott, Helton was also ordered to pay a $250 fine, appear before a victim impact panel and serve “48 hours in custody.”

While Helton pleaded guilty to “first offense drunk driving,” this is at least the second time he has been arrested for drunk driving. Helton's first DUI came before the 2013 season. He said it was the first time he was arrested for driving under the influence. He reportedly received treatment after the two arrests.

Helton is considered one of the greatest Rockies of all time. He owns a career slash line of .316/.414/.539, is a five-time All Star and a three-time Gold Glove award winner.

Helton is entering his third year on the Hall of Fame ballot. He received 29.2 percent of the vote last time, but that represents a significant improvement from his first election year.
