HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – An Evansville man has been arrested for his role in a shooting that occurred during a traffic stop Tuesday evening.

According to an affidavit, Evansville police initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of Harlan Avenue and Olive Street for a vehicle that failed to heed a traffic signal. During the check, the officer asked the people in the vehicle to get out.

Police say when the vehicle's passenger, Michael Johnson, got out, a physical fight ensued between him and an EPD officer. During the struggle, a shot was fired from a firearm Johnson was in possession of. Officers then located and took possession of Johnson's firearm, located a gunshot wound to Johnson's arm, and began providing medical treatment to him after taking him into custody. During the investigation, the firearm used in the incident was identified as stolen. Johnson was then transported to the Vanderburgh County Jail after being treated and released from the hospital. He faces charges of robbery, resisting law enforcement with a deadly weapon and criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon.
