Evacuation warnings issued as Hillside fire grows to 632 acres – edhat

Evacuation warnings are now in place as the Hill Fire in Cuyama grew to 632 acres as of 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The sheriff's office issued a EVACUATION WARNING for the area south of Foothill Road, Castro Canyon and east of Castro Canyon through Santa Barbara Canyon due to the Hill Fire.

Be ready to leave at any time. Prepare family members, pets and essential items. If you feel threatened at any point, leave immediately.

Do not wait for an alert to evacuate. People with disabilities, access and functional needs should leave now. People with large animals should leave now.

Growing a 150-acre brush fire in New Cuyama

Firefighters are on the scene of a growing bushfire near New Cuyama which broke out on Tuesday afternoon.

At 12:11 p.m., Santa Barbara County and Los Padres Forest firefighters responded near Kirschenmenn Road and Foothill, southeast of New Cuyama.

The fire was initially estimated at 75 acres with a moderate rate of spread. Air support, including four fixed-wing tanker aircraft and three “type 1” helicopters, was called in to assist.

As of 2 p.m., the fire was estimated at 150 acres, according to county Fire Capt. Scott Safechuck.
