Evacuation orders to be lifted in 14,000-acre fire near Tracy

SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY, Calif. (KRON) — Evacuation orders following the Corral Fire that broke out Saturday will be lifted. Evacuation orders will be downgraded to evacuation warnings at 6 p.m. Sunday, Cal Fire announced on X.

As of Sunday evening, the fire was 50 percent contained, Cal Fire said.

Roads on I-580 remain impacted by the fire. As of 5 p.m., eastbound I-580 traffic was reduced to one lane, from approximately 3 miles east of the Route 132 intersection at Bird Road to 3.5 miles west of Highway 132 at Corral Hallow Creek.

As of 6 p.m., eastbound traffic in the above areas on I-580 will be open to two lanes.

Officials said residents should be “prepared for potential changes.”

The Corral Fire broke out Saturday afternoon near the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and has burned more than 14,000 acres.

Two Alameda County firefighters were injured responding to the blaze, the Alameda County Fire Department said. They suffered “mild to moderate burns” and were taken to hospital.

The cause of the fire was unknown at the time.
