evacuation orders issued near Gorman

LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CA.A massive brush fire broke out Saturday afternoon near the northern Los Angeles County community of Gorman, prompting evacuations.

The fire, now called the Post Fire, broke out shortly before 2 p.m. Saturday, according to Cal Fire, near the southbound lanes of Highway 5, north of Gorman Road. As of 2 p.m., the fire had burned approximately 500 acres, with no information on any containment. By 4 p.m., the fire had grown to more than 3,600 acres.

Los Angeles County firefighters are battling the blaze and announced evacuation orders for the area Saturday evening, saying the fire was threatening several structures, but did not provide details.

The Post Fire was one of two LACoFD fights against Saturdya. The Agua Dulce Fire broke out around 12:30 p.m. at Sierra Highway and Jonnie Drive. At approximately 2:30 p.m., the California Highway Patrol reported that the progress of this fire had been stopped and the northbound lanes of the Sierra Highway had been reopened at approximately 3:30 p.m.

Gorman is an unincorporated community located about 50 miles west of Lancaster.
