Eva-Rose Gauthier: Missing girl who went to the Quebec River identified

The body of a four-year-old girl who disappeared five months ago after falling into a Quebec river while sledding has been identified.

The body of Eva-Rose Gauthier was found Sunday at Lac Saint-Jean, near the tourist complex of Vauvert-sur-le-lac-Saint-Jean, about 15 kilometers from where she disappeared on December 22 2023, reports Noovo Info.

That day, while sledding with her mother, she jumped a fence and fell into the Mistassibi River, about 242 kilometers northwest of Quebec, triggering a several-day search by police provincial authorities who deployed divers and a drone to try to locate his.

The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) interrupted the search on December 29, but announced that it would resume in the event of new clues about the child's whereabouts.

The discovery of her body comes after the girl's mother launched an appeal on social media on May 15, calling on fishermen to be on the lookout for any signs of her daughter as the opening of the fishing season.

On Friday, the mother posted a touching message on Facebook about her daughter, “my angel.”

“You made me a mother, you taught me how to be one. Despite all the sleepless nights, tantrums and other difficulties, I saw unconditional love grow day by day,” wrote the mother.

“I blame my life for having taken you away from us, but I console myself by telling myself that your work here was finished and that elsewhere, wherever you were, they needed you to bring them love, joy and tenderness, just as you did so well for your family I love you, my ray of sunshine, who watches over us and your beloved little brother. We still have a long way to go. Browse.

An online obituary of the little girl was published this week announcing that her funeral will take place on June 7 in Dolbeau-Mistassini, Quebec.
