Euromore, Russia's new information warfare weapon

By suspending the European broadcast of Russia Today (RT) and Sputnik on March 2, 2022, the European Union (EU) aimed to “turn off the tap to media controlled by the Russian state”. Banned from search engines and social networks, the two publications were brutally cut off from their European audience. Today, the confidential documents consulted by The worldWe reveal that Russia was quick to organize itself to circumvent these sanctions by attempting to create an alternative media, called Euromore.

Launched on March 31, 2022, the site presents itself as “an independent European publication with an editorial staff in the Kingdom of Belgium”. In reality, it is run by Rusfuture, a foundation based in Moscow and chaired by Ukrainian political scientist Yuriy Kot, known for his pro-Russian positions. Euromore also received financial support from Pravfond, another Russian organization close to the country's intelligence services, subject to European sanctions and whose priorities are directly approved by the Russian Foreign Ministry. If the total amount of this financing is unknown, a contract mentions financial support of a little more than 2 million rubles (around 20,000 euros) for the year 2024 alone.

Our partners at Danish public broadcaster DR have obtained around 40 internal Pravfond documents from a source within a European intelligence service, let us leave no doubt about the objective of the Euromore project: to create a “significant alternative” to RT and Sputnik, while helping them to “broadcast the main speeches” following their ban in Europe .

The priority themes addressed by Euromore – “the special operation in Ukraine”, “Russophobia in Europe” and “the protection of the Russian language” – are clearly part of Russia’s official doctrine. The site broadcasts the speeches of Western political figures selected for their “constructive attitude towards Russia”: Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and even a French MEP, Hervé Juvin, former far-right MP. -right National Rally (RN).

In its live videos on YouTube, Euromore gives voice to well-known pro-Russian personalities: the former American spy Larry Johnson, the Swiss analyst Jacques Baud, the French lawyer Karine Bechet-Golovko and the Russian film producer- American Igor Lopatonok, whose involvement in flattering affairs Documentary projects on the dictators Alexander Lukashenko and Ilham Aliyev were recently revealed, in collaboration with American director Oliver Stone.
