Watch the dramatic moment a violent offender was arrested after stabbing a stranger in front of terrified schoolchildren in Essex.

John Garrett, 55, attacked a man at a bus stop in Tiptree in broad daylight after stealing two bottles of alcohol from a Shell garage on July 11, 2023.

He stabbed his victim three times in the neck and left her in a life-threatening condition as paramedics rushed to the scene.

Six people – including school-leavers – witnessed the violent attack.

Garrett fled the scene and returned home, where he was arrested a short time later.

He has since been sentenced to 13 years and six months in prison, after pleading guilty to grievous bodily harm with intent and theft.
