Escaped Solano County inmate captured and arrested in Monterey, CDCR says – KION546

MONTEREY, Calif. (KION-TV) – A Solano County inmate on the run since May 13 was arrested in Monterey Saturday afternoon, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

According to CDCR, James Xiong, 36, was apprehended and arrested by Monterey police. Officers had to use physical force and used Tasers to take Xiong into custody.

Investigators said Xiong escaped from the Delta Conservation Camp in Solano County on May 13.

Our CBS affiliate in San Francisco said Xiong failed to show up for work that morning, leading to a search of the premises.

In 2015, Xiong received a six-year sentence for first-degree robbery and a concurrent three-year sentence for vehicle theft with a prior felony conviction.

The CDCR said Xiong was on parole in 2019.

In 2022, Xiong was sentenced to six years in prison after being convicted of grand theft in Nevada County, per a CDCR spokesperson.

Xiong was taken to the Soledad Correctional Training Center and will be referred to the Solano County Prosecutor's Office for possible escape charges.
