Ensuring safe migration and preventing human trafficking

GAIBANDHA, June 3, 2024 (BSS) – Speakers at a function here today highlighted the need
to ensure safe migration and prevent human trafficking to help international job seekers avoid additional complexities abroad.


If international job applicants go abroad illegally, they face immigration challenges due to lack of proper documents. In this situation, not only are they forced to return home empty-handed, but a large sum of money has to be sent from the country to bring them back, making their families unhappy.


They made the observations during a media dialogue on safe migration and
fight against human trafficking at the hall of Gana Unnayan Kendra (GUK), located in Nashratpur
area under Sadar upazila in the district this afternoon.


GUK organized this function as part of the Promoting Resilience, Opportunity and Socio-Economic Development programme.

(PROSPERITY) project financed by AWO International and BMZ.


Director of the TTC (Technical Training Center) under the Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and
Abdur Rahim, Foreign Employment Engineer, approached the function as the main focal person,
and Nesarul Haque, deputy director of the Regional Employment and Manpower Office of the
ministry, spoke at the event as an associate focal person.


After an in-depth discussion, journalists were asked to play a responsible role in creating awareness so that international job seekers do not go abroad illegally through the intervention of brokers.


Earlier, Deputy Coordinator (AC) of GUK Aftab Hossain briefed reporters about the situation.
overall project activity which would continue until December 2025, and AC Joyaprosad
welcomed the participants on behalf of the organization.


Many journalists, including Sarker Mohammad Shahiduzzaman, working in
various printed and electronic media in the neighborhood took part in the dialogue.
