Emotional support cat missing after tractor-trailer crashes into Morris apartment building

MORRIS, Ill. – Illinois State Police are investigating what caused a tractor-trailer to leave the road and crash into an apartment building in the southwest suburbs.

Although no one was injured, the accident left a Morris family searching for their beloved support animal.

“I was sobbing earlier. I'm just glad you didn't see that part. It was such a shock and I think I still cry here and there,” building resident Jody Doran, whose apartment was in the upper corner of the building where the semi- trailer crashed.

Doran, who shares the home with his daughter and two cats, was not inside the apartment when the accident happened. But the impact, Doran believes, led to the disappearance of their emotional support cat.

“She and her dad are going to take a look and see if they can find him,” Doran said. “We say a lot of prayers and hope he is found.”

Morris officials say the incident happened around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 1800 block of East Anne Lane. The tractor-trailer was heading east on Interstate 80 when it experienced a mechanical failure, causing the vehicle to go off the road and collide with a building.

The Red Cross is helping displaced residents.

The semi-trailer was removed from the building around 2 p.m.
