Elleven45 salon temporarily closed after deadly Buckhead shooting

City officials and the owners of Elleven45 Lounge have agreed that the nightclub will temporarily close for 60 days.

BUCKHEAD, Ga. — A Buckhead lounge is temporarily closing its doors after the city of Atlanta filed a lawsuit following a fatal shooting at the nightclub that left two young adults dead in May.

11Alive's Erica Murphy attended a civil hearing Thursday, where Atlanta city officials heard from witnesses and addressed several items on their agenda. However, during the meeting, officials ultimately decided they needed more time to address these concerns. City officials and the owners of Elleven45 Lounge have agreed that the nightclub will temporarily close for 60 days.

In August, another hearing will be held to hear the complaint filed against the lounge, which seeks a temporary restraining order against the club, its owners and the club's owner. The city asked the courts to declare Elleven45 a public nuisance and prevent the sale of alcohol on the property “in order to protect the health, safety and welfare of the public.”

The new developments at the salon come as Atlanta police said a suspect turned himself in Wednesday. 11Alive was in court Thursday, where Karanji Reese, 21, waived his first court appearance.

He faces murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, according to APD.

The deadly shooting at Elleven45 occurred on Mother's Day when authorities said a single gunman opened fire at the club and fatally shot six people: Mari Creighton, 21, who was a volleyball player ball from Albany State University, Nakyris M, 20 years old. . Ridley died and four others were injured.

Since then, Creighton's family has also filed a lawsuit against the club, claiming that due to the defendants' “actions and/or inactions, which led to the tragic and completely avoidable death of Mariam Creighton.”
