Elgin man sentenced to 36 years in prison for strangling his wife and leaving her body in a house with his 2 children

ELGIN Illinois — An Elgin man will spend more than 30 years in prison for strangling his wife and leaving her body inside the home where she lived with their two children.

Elgin resident Victor Ayllon, 38, was sentenced to 36 years in prison for the murder of his wife Wendy Ayllon, according to Kane County State's Attorney Jamie Mosser.

Prosecutors say an investigation was launched after Wendy Ayllon's 4-year-old son was found walking alone near the intersection of Lawrence Avenue and North Aldine Street on the evening of July 12, 2021.

Authorities determined the boy lived in the 300 block of Heine Avenue and after going to his home, they found another child, a 3-year-old boy, alone inside. Upon further investigation, authorities found Wendy Ayllon unconscious lying on the ground.

Following this discovery, authorities began searching for the victim's husband, Victor Ayllon, who was later found at his parents' home.

Elgin resident Victor Ayllon, 38, was sentenced to 36 years in prison for the 2021 murder of his wife Wendy Ayllon.

Prosecutors say that when Victor Ayllon was located by authorities, he had light marks on his wrists.

Investigators later learned that Wendy picked up Victor early in the morning that day and the two returned home at 2:16 a.m. Victor then left the house an hour later that same morning.

According to prosecutors, a camera inside the home captured audio of the two arguing and the victim screaming, followed by a loud noise.

During an interview, Victor admitted to authorities that he had argued with his wife over her accusations of infidelity and his drug addiction. He then strangled Wendy to death and left her body with her two children.

No evidence of infidelity has ever been found by authorities.

An autopsy later confirmed that Wendy Ayllon died from manual strangulation.

“The defendant’s heinous actions, which resulted in the tragic death of his wife and the abandonment of their two young children with his body, are beyond reprehensible. His complete disregard for human life and parental responsibility has rightly resulted in a lengthy prison sentence. This sentence brings some justice to Wendy Ayllon and her family. Our thoughts are with the young children who have been deeply affected by this traumatic event. I express my gratitude to Elgin Detectives Chris Hughes and Chris Valle, as well as the Elgin Police Department, for their diligent investigation leading to this conviction and sentence,” Mosser said in a statement from press Friday.

Victor Ayllon pleaded guilty to first degree murder on April 25, 2024 and the court accepted the plea.

State law requires Victor Ayllon to serve his entire sentence and he will receive credit for 1,074 days served in the Kane County Jail.
