Eight boys aged 12 arrested on suspicion of rape after playground attack

Eight boys have been arrested on suspicion of rape after a teenage girl was attacked on a playground in Nottinghamshire.

Police are working “around the clock” to investigate the serious incident in Newark last Saturday, between 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.

After arresting four boys on suspicion of rape last week, Nottinghamshire Police announced this evening that they had arrested four more.

One boy is 12, one is 13, two are 14, two are 15 and two are 16.

They were all released on bail and conditions.

Detective Inspector Amy Revill said: “We have made four further arrests in this case and our investigation continues to progress at pace.

“We are continuing to support the girl and her family with specially trained officers and are doing all we can to establish exactly what happened.

“I would like to again appeal to the local community and anyone who may have information to contact us. Several people have come forward to help us with our requests – so thank you for your help.

She added: “I understand the concerns this incident has caused in our Newark community. But I want to make it clear that the team of detectives investigating this incident are working around the clock and we will find out exactly what happened.

“We have been carrying out additional patrols in the area and this will continue.”
