EDINBURG — A fire early Wednesday morning injured an Edinburgh man and killed eight pets.

First responders from the Edinburg Police and Fire Department responded around 12:04 a.m. Wednesday to a garage fire at a home in the 500 block of Sunset Drive, just off Eisenhower Drive. When they arrived, they found that a large part of the residence was already engulfed in flames. Officers helped move the occupants of the home to a safer location away from the fire, according to a news release from the Edinburgh Police Department.

A 48-year-old man who resided in the home was treated for burns to his legs. He was transported to a local hospital with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening by Bargersville Community Fire Department paramedics, according to the news release.

Six occupants, as well as several animals, were displaced due to the “significant” damage caused by the fire. About six cats and two dogs were killed in the fire.

The cause of this fire remains under investigation.

Edinburgh Police Chief Doyne Little thanked agencies who assisted him, including Edinburgh Fire, Edinburgh Police, German Township Fire, Amity Fire, Nineveh Fire and paramedics of Bargersville. He also thanked Fire Angels, who helped provide residents with housing and assist them with any necessary items.
