Edenton man sentenced to 8 years in prison for child pornography

NORTH CAROLINA, USA — An Edenton man has been sentenced to more than eight years in prison for child pornography, the Department of Justice announced.

This conviction comes after Matterson Xavier Rusyn, 61, was convicted of possession of child pornography.

According to court documents, Microsoft reported to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that one of its users had uploaded an image of child pornography into a reverse image search on Bing to find similar images. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children forwarded it to the Chowan County Sheriff's Office, which discovered that the IP address used to upload the photos was linked to Rusyn.

After investigating Rusyn, the Chowan County Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant. During the search, Rusyn admitted to collecting child pornography. Authorities seized his cell phone, computers and hard drives. The devices were forensically analyzed and contained more than 3,000 images of child pornography.

Rusyn was sentenced to 102 months in prison followed by 120 months of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay $107,000 in restitution to 16 known victims.
