East Liverpool man sentenced to 14 years in prison for child rape

An east Liverpool man has been convicted of raping a child almost 10 years ago.

Brian McCune, 41, was sentenced to 14 years in prison with credit for 468 days served, followed by five years of post-release control for one count of rape and one count of gross sexual imposition.

He must also register as a Level 3 sex offender.

The charges stem from incidents that occurred between October 2014 and December 2015, when the victim was between the ages of eight and nine.

During sentencing, the victim's grandmother took the stand to read a letter from the victim, now almost 18 years old. The letter details the lasting impacts McCune's actions had on the victim.

“My childhood was taken away from me and I was forced to mature before I was supposed to. … I have serious trust issues with men because I admired men. [McCune] as a father. He didn't protect me like he was supposed to. I have trouble sleeping because I still have nightmares about him,” the letter reads.

McCune also took the stand, but did not apologize for his actions. Instead, he asked for the minimum sentence so he could take care of his parents.

“I am the only son left to my parents. … I don't know how much longer my parents will be here. What I'm asking for is the minimum [sentence]. I will do this time and come home to help take care of them and help take care of the dogs and whatever else is needed,” McCune said.
