ALBANY, NY — Michael Klugo, 44, of East Greenbush, was arrested Friday in connection with a criminal complaint charging him with distribution of child pornography.

U.S. Attorney Carla B. Freedman and Craig L. Tremaroli, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Albany Field Office, announced in a press release Monday.

The criminal complaint alleges that around June 6, Klugo distributed an image of child pornography over the Internet, the release states. The charges in the complaint are merely accusations. The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Kluger was arraigned Monday in Albany before U.S. Magistrate Judge Christian F. Hummel and was ordered held pending a detention hearing scheduled for Thursday, June 13.

The FBI is investigating the case and Assistant U.S. Attorney Allen J. Vickey is prosecuting the case, officials said.

Launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice, Project Safe Childhood is led by the United States Attorney's Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS). It is designed to mobilize federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as identify and rescue victims, the release said.
