A house fire in Northampton County set off three alarms Monday evening.

The fire broke out around 7 p.m. in the 5600 block of Chenango Drive in East Allen Township, according to emergency radio dispatches. Around 7:30 p.m., a third alarm was triggered.

Photos taken at the scene appear to show the fire destroyed a garage attached to the home. Firefighters could also be seen breaking through the roof of the house.

Smoke from the fire could be seen as far away as Allentown, according to a photo shared on social media.

Kristen Romanelli, who lives in the Grouse Drive area, said she and her husband were working on a lawn mower outside when they heard numerous banging noises and started smelling smoke. After hearing the sirens, she went outside.

“We kept hearing cracking noises and firecrackers for a good 10 minutes, and the smoke was actually pouring into the sky, blocking out the sun,” she said. “Everyone was on their lawn. After a while we had to go back because the wind was blowing in our direction so the whole neighborhood was getting smoky, ash started falling and it was probably getting a little unhealthy to breathe.

No further details were immediately available.
