Early morning shooting ends with 2 arrests; Gulfport experiences 4 shootings in 24 hours

GULFPORT, Miss. (WLOX) – After 24 hours of violence in Gulfport, police released details of another shooting that occurred early Tuesday morning.

According to Gulfport police, Traevone Bailey, 20, and Rashann Thomas, 31, were charged with two counts of aggravated assault.

Police said the incident happened around 1:27 a.m. when officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 100 block of Faust Drive, off Dedeaux Road.

When police arrived, they discovered a vehicle that had been hit several times by gunfire.

During the investigation, detectives discovered that a verbal altercation between the suspects and victims escalated into gunfire.

Bailey and Thomas were apprehended during a traffic stop without incident.

The suspects were processed and transported to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center, each being held on $500,000 bail set by Judge Patano.

This incident follows three others that occurred in Gulfport in 24 hours:

  • Early Monday morning, around 1:28 a.m., Christopher Brown, 16, was shot and killed in the 100 block of Darby Street. No arrests have been made.
  • Monday evening around 5:30 p.m., a shooting at a Big Boys convenience store on Dedeaux Road ended in a home and several vehicles, including a detective car, with bullet holes and the arrest of four teenagers.
  • Monday night at 11 p.m., shots were fired at the Emerald Pines Apartments on 39th Avenue. No one was injured in the shooting and no arrests were made.

Police have not confirmed whether any of these shootings are related to each other.
