DV offender convicted of shooting ex in front of children 1 month after she reported abuse to MPD

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – A suspect wanted for attempted murder is behind bars more than six weeks after allegedly shooting his ex-girlfriend in front of their three young children, according to the Memphis Police Department.

During the investigation, police said it was discovered that the victim had reported abuse from him in April, but was never charged.

Records also show he is also convicted of domestic violence.

Kristopher Jackson, 39, is charged with attempted first-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a dangerous felony, being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun and three counts of reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon.

Police say the shooting happened on the afternoon of Friday, May 10.

The victim reportedly called for help from a home on Ironwood Drive in Hickory Hill, saying she had been shot by Jackson, her ex-boyfriend and father of her children, and that she could no longer feel her legs .

When police arrived, they reportedly saw Jackson fleeing in a silver pickup truck. The ex-couple's eight-year-old daughter told police she saw Jackson trying to drag her injured mother into that truck.

She and her two other siblings, aged six and four, reportedly watched from a window. Police say they were unhurt.

The victim told officers who responded to the scene that she and Jackson were arguing about their separation when he shot her in the back as she turned and walked away.

She was rushed to Regional One Hospital with serious injuries.

Police said Jackson was convicted of assault causing bodily injury, a misdemeanor, in 2015.

Investigators also learned that the victim had filed a complaint against her ex on April 5, after he allegedly placed a gun to her forehead and threatened to kill her in front of their four-year-old child.

Records indicate he was never charged over the allegation.

Jackson is being held on $500,000 bail. His next court date is July 8.
