Duo arrested for car theft and illegal possession

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Over the weekend, the Shelby County Sheriff's Office arrested two people for car thefts, motor vehicle thefts, credit card thefts and illegal possession of firearms and drugs .

On June 2, in Cordoba, a victim reported the theft of his truck, which contained a handgun.


SCSO detectives with the Burglary, Robbery and Auto Theft (BRATS) Unit located the stolen truck at a residence in the Binghampton neighborhood of Memphis and identified Justin Jones as the suspect in the case.

After executing a search warrant at the residence, detectives located Rebecca Thompson, along with a loaded handgun, fentanyl and four credit cards from a confirmed car burglary in Memphis.

Detectives also located 20 other credit cards belonging to various people, which allowed detectives to connect Jones to a car theft in Shelby Farms on May 26.

Jones, 30, was arrested and charged with two counts of theft of property $2,500 to $10,000, two counts of convicted felon possessing a handgun, theft of handgun under $2,500, possession of fentanyl and drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest and 30 counts of fraudulent use. of a credit card and four counts of identity theft and trafficking.

Jones also had four felony warrants for his arrest that included 12 charges.

Thompson, 27, was charged with possession of fentanyl and drug paraphernalia, convicted of possession of a handgun, 30 counts of fraudulent use of a credit card and four counts of identity theft.

Both are convicted felons. Thompson remains on probation for aggravated burglary and six counts of automobile burglary.
