A large trash fire spread to an excavator, destroying it Friday evening in Keene, authorities said. The Keene Fire Department said they received a call around 10 p.m. to 55 Old Summit Road for a report of an unknown exterior fire. When firefighters arrived on scene, they reported a large fire that had spread to a nearby excavator. Despite an aggressive effort, the excavator could not be saved and is considered a total loss. Thanks to lots of water and foam, along with heavy equipment operators at the transfer station, the pile was extinguished, firefighters said. The Keene Fire Department said they received a call around 10 p.m. to 55 Old Summit Road for a report of an unknown exterior fire.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they reported a large fire that had spread to a nearby excavator. Despite an aggressive effort, the excavator could not be saved and is considered a total loss.

The cause and origin have not been determined and an investigation is being conducted by the Keene Fire and Police Departments and notifications have been made to the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal's Office.
