Dumpster catches fire at Valley Lee Transfer Station, fire quickly put out

VALLEY LEE, Md. – A dumpster fire at the Valley Lee Transfer Station last week was quickly contained thanks to quick action by the Second District Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Team and the Department of Public Works of St. Mary's County (DPW).

DPW crews sprang into action, using equipment to disperse the burning trash. This allowed firefighters to completely extinguish the flames. The fire was contained within minutes and fire crews remained on scene controlling smoldering debris until DPW arrived.

The collaborative effort between the fire department and DPW prevented the fire from getting worse and kept the community safe.

Shortly after the waste became widespread and accessible, the fire was completely extinguished and firefighters were able to return to service. The scene was then turned over to St. Mary County DPW.
