DUI Checkpoint Scheduled by Sheriff's Department

The Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office will host a DUI/DUID checkpoint on Friday, June 14, 2024 somewhere in the county, thanks to a grant funded by the California Cannabis Tax Fund.

The Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office is prepared to stop and arrest any drunk driver they encounter in order to keep the roads and residents of the community safe. Deputies have received specialized training on driving under the influence (DUI) as well as driving under the influence of drugs (DUID), which will help them identify and remove people under the influence from our roadways.

Having a sober driver is just the first step in ensuring nighttime safety. The Sheriff's Office encourages everyone to continue to use their seat belts, put away their cell phones, obey traffic laws and watch out for dangerous drivers.

Drunk drivers often face jail time, loss of their driver's license, higher insurance rates and dozens of other unexpected expenses ranging from attorney fees to court costs to having a car towed , collision repairs and lost wages due to work stoppage. Worse still, a drunk driver can cause a road accident that costs someone their life, or even their own.

The authorities invite you to follow these tips to drive safely:

Even just one drink can impair your judgment and increase your risk of being arrested for drunk driving, or worse, the risk of having an accident while driving.

If you drink, don't consider driving. Plan to designate a sober driver before the party begins.

If you have been drinking, do not drive. Call a taxi, call a sober friend or family member, or use public transportation.

To be responsible. If someone you know drinks, don't let them drive.

If you see an impaired driver on the road, contact law enforcement. Your actions can save someone's life and inaction can cost a life.

Funding for this checkpoint is provided to the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office through a grant from the California Cannabis Tax Fund. Authorities remind everyone to continue working together to end these tragedies. If you see a drunk driver, call 9-1-1.

If you have any tips, you can leave an anonymous tip by calling Crime Stoppers at (209) 521-4636. Tipsters can also email or text tips to CRIMES (274637) by typing “Tip704” followed by the message. Participating with anonymous tips may make you eligible for a cash reward.
