Drugs, weapons and money seized during major trafficking

In Queensland, police charged a man with 15 weapons and drug offenses on Thursday following a drug trafficking investigation in Logan.

NSW Police have charged a man for alleged possession of semi-automatic firearms after detectives executed a search warrant at a home in Birrong, in Sydney's west, on Friday morning.

The Victorian investigation, which lasted eight months, focused on dismantling Shepparton's main suppliers, with police alleging drugs were transported from Melbourne to a trafficking network in northern Victoria.

Officers raided 13 homes and storage sheds in Shepparton and Melbourne on Wednesday and Thursday, seizing $150,000 worth of methamphetamine, $100,000 worth of MDMA, $132,000 worth of cocaine, $10,000 worth of cannabis, $150,000 in cash, a pistol and ammunition, as well as three motorcycles which were allegedly stolen.

“This week's efforts have seen police remove significant quantities of drugs from the streets of Shepparton, dealing a major blow to the illicit drug trade,” said Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Shortis of the investigation unit. Shepparton Criminal Investigation Department in a press release.

“We know that drug use often serves as a stepping stone to other serious crimes that can have devastating consequences for our community.”

Those arrested included eight men from Shepparton, all accused of drug trafficking.

Queensland Police have charged a 36-year-old man from Loganholme, south of Brisbane, after executing search warrants at three addresses.

Police reportedly found three pistols, a large quantity of ammunition and $180,000 in cash.

Detectives also located approximately 2.8 kilograms of methylamphetamine, with an estimated street value of $246,000.

The Loganholme man was charged with a string of offenses including three counts of unlawful possession of a weapon and four counts of possession of dangerous drugs.

Acting Detective Inspector Nicola Brown said the arrest was part of a wider crackdown on illegal weapons and drugs.

“Police have disrupted a major supply chain of methylamphetamine which we know was being distributed across the south-east region of Queensland,” she said.

NSW Police arrested a man at a Birrong home on Friday after searching another property in the area where a mobile phone was seized for forensic examination.

The 27-year-old man has been charged with more than half a dozen firearms-related offenses, including possession of an unregistered firearm/pistol.

He was refused bail to appear at Bankstown Local Court on Friday.
