Drug, gun charges against suspect who dragged officer during Maryland traffic stop: police

Xzavier J. Logan, Jr., 25, faces attempted murder and other charges after he was stopped with a weapon during a traffic stop and then dragged an officer who tried to arrest him, police said Tuesday afternoon.

Shortly before midnight Sunday, an officer stopped Logan in the 3300 block of McShane Way in Dundalk, and while speaking with him, a gun was found between his legs.

Logan was ordered to put his hands on his head, which he did not do, but instead put the car in gear and dragged one of the officers before crashing.

During the incident, police say an officer fired his weapon, although Logan was not hit.

After the crash, investigators say Logan fled on foot before being subdued with a Taser-type device and taken into custody.

Two officers and Logan were transported to area hospitals for treatment of various injuries and have since been released. Two handguns, including one with a high-capacity magazine, were recovered, as well as an automatic safety switch from his vehicle.

Additionally, officers recovered a large quantity of drugs and more than $15,000 in cash.

Logan has been charged with attempted murder, first- and second-degree assault, as well as drug and weapons offenses.

He has been held at the Baltimore County Detention Center since Tuesday, July 2.
