Drone mission helps fight 'large grass fire' in Weber County, Utah

WEBER COUNTY, Utah (ABC4) — Authorities said a major fire in Weber County was extinguished Wednesday using a drone.

Weber County Sheriff's Office published on social networks and said a large haystack in unincorporated Weber County caught fire Wednesday.

“The fire ultimately destroyed a significant amount of hay and several trailers, but no structures were lost,” the sheriff’s office said.

Multiple agencies responded to assist during the incident and WCSO deputies conducted a drone mission.

The drone assisted with “video surveillance” and also used thermal imaging to help crews fight the fire, WCSO said.

“Our drone team is an asset to the Sheriff’s Office, allied agencies and the community,” the Sheriff’s Office said.

The Sheriff's Office expressed gratitude to all personnel who responded to help fight the fire.
