drivers arrested on N Magnolia Avenue Saturday

SANTEE, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — Three people were arrested at a checkpoint for driving under the influence in Santee Saturday evening, authorities said.

According to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, officers conducted the checkpoint in the 8800 block of N Magnolia Avenue, located in Santee, between 8:30 p.m. and 2 a.m. Sunday.


A total of 1,097 vehicles passed through the checkpoint and authorities said 72 motorists were sent for secondary assessment.

Six drivers performed field sobriety tests and three were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, the sheriff's department confirmed. The identities of those arrested were not immediately released.

Additionally, seven drivers were cited for driving without a license or with a suspended license. Three vehicles were towed.

The Sheriff's Department reiterated the following message to the public:

“Do not drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs. We also want to remind the public that impaired driving is not just caused by alcohol. Some prescription and over-the-counter medications can interfere with driving. Although medical and recreational marijuana are legal, driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal.
