Driver who intentionally crashed his car into business identified

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – The driver accused of repeatedly and intentionally crashing his SUV into an Evansville business Thursday has been identified.

Evansville Police Department officials say Shawn Kohlmeyer was the driver.


Officers said while on patrol, they saw a black SUV back up and crash into the side of a building on Morgan and Fares in Evansville.

Officers say Kohlmeyer refused commands to exit his vehicle and continued to enter the building. They also claim Kohlmeyer entered the building seven times before finally exiting his vehicle.

After officers asked Kohlmeyer what happened, he told them he had gone to the building to “register his car” and was trying to park the vehicle. Kohlmeyer then said he did not want to answer any more questions.

Officers say Kohlmeyer's eyes were red and shiny and there was vomit on his leg. They also say there was vomit inside his vehicle and he smelled of alcohol.

According to an affidavit obtained by Eyewitness News, after arriving at Deaconess Midtown for medical attention for injuries sustained in the crashes, Kohlmeyer began yelling at nurses for something to drink.

Kohlmeyer is being held at the Vanderburgh County Jail on $2,500 bond.
