Driver wanted after early morning high-speed chase ends near KCMO Park

BELTON, Mo. (KCTV) – Law enforcement is searching for the driver behind an early morning high-speed chase that ended near a Kansas City park before he is not lost sight of.

The Cass County, Missouri, Sheriff's Office says that around 12:20 a.m. on Saturday, June 29, law enforcement attempted to stop a vehicle near I-49 and 155th Street in Belton for a traffic violation.

As the vehicle headed north on the highway, officers said they activated their emergency lights in an attempt to stop the driver. The vehicle took some time to react but eventually stopped.

Once the officer got out of his vehicle, the sheriff's office said the driver sped off. The officer ran to his own vehicle to begin pursuing the suspect. The driver continued to speed north on the highway.

After the vehicle stopped near a playground at Iser Park in Kansas City, law enforcement said the suspect ran out and tried to run away. That's when they realized the suspect had a gun in his hand.

The sheriff's office said multiple agencies responded, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms and Explosives with a K-9 and air support, but the suspect eluded them.

On Saturday afternoon, the sheriff's office said the Kansas City, Mo., Police Department had taken over the case. No further information was communicated.
