Driver seriously injured in road rage shooting in Cedar City; Suspect arrested

CEDAR CITY, Utah — One driver was arrested and another hospitalized after an alleged road rage shooting in Cedar City, police reported Wednesday.

According to the Cedar City Police Department, the incident began downtown with a “physical confrontation” between a motorcyclist and the driver of a car. It is not yet clear what exactly led to the confrontation.

The two men met near the intersection of Main Street and Fiddlers Canyon Drive around 3:30 p.m., where police say the situation escalated. The motorcyclist allegedly pulled out a handgun and shot the driver of the car.

The suspect fled the scene, but was quickly found at a nearby residence and taken into custody, police said.

The victim was airlifted to St. George Regional Hospital. Police said the victim was in critical condition.

Police said their investigation is ongoing, but they are not looking for any other suspects at this time.

The names of the suspect and victim have not been released.

Last June, two road rage incidents left two people dead. In Clearfield, 63-year-old man killed following shootingwhile a father of two was shot and killed after a road rage incident in Lehi witnessed by his sons.
