The McHenry County Coroner's Office has identified a man who died Thursday in a crash on Algonquin Road in Lake in the Hills.

The coroner's office on Monday identified the driver who died as 67-year-old Donald Hampton. The coroner's office did not release Hampton's hometown, saying authorities did not yet have that information.

Paramedics responded to the crash at the intersection of Algonquin Road and Harvest Gate shortly after 6:15 a.m. Thursday. Two cars were involved in the accident, a 2024 Kia Forte and a BMW X5. Both drivers were transported to Northwestern Huntley Hospital. Hampton, the driver of the Kia, died at the hospital, officials said; neither car had any passengers.

The crash, which closed the intersection for about 4 1/2 hours, was under investigation Thursday by the Major Crash Assistance Team and the coroner's office. Chief Deputy Coroner Olivia Zednick said Thursday that an autopsy was scheduled for Friday, but the office provided no updates on those findings.
