Driver killed in chase with Wake County Sheriff's Office

RALEIGH, North Carolina — A crash killed one person and injured another Sunday evening in Wake County.

Authorities said the crash happened around 10 p.m. at the intersection of Louisburg Road and Zebulon Road.

According to the State Highway Patrol, the accident was caused by a chase. Authorities said a Wake County Sheriff's Office deputy conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle on Interstate 540 near Lousiburg, but the driver did not stop.

Officers pursued the vehicle in the area of ​​Louisburg Road and Zebulon Road when the driver crashed into a black sedan and another vehicle.

One person, who authorities say was the suspect in the chase, died in the crash and another person was seriously injured.

The intersection of Louisburg Road near Zebulon Road was briefly closed overnight for investigation.

The crash was one of two that occurred on Louisburg Road Sunday evening. A second accident scene occurred on Louisburg Road near Fox Road. This crash appears to involve a Wake County EMS vehicle, but no one was injured.

It is unclear whether the two accidents are related to each other.
