Driver charged with five offenses after alleged police chase around Burnley

A driver has been charged with drink-driving despite having no insurance or license after allegedly leading police on a chase around Burnley.

A blue Citroën Berlingo was seen driving erratically in Burnley early yesterday (Saturday May 25), Lancashire Police said.

The van was also said to have faulty tires and police said when they tried to stop the driver he led them on a chase through Cliviger and Burnley Wood.

The driver abandoned the car near Turf Moor after a stinger was deployed, police said.

He was arrested, and now a man has been charged with failure to stop, dangerous driving, drink driving, driving without insurance and driving without a license.

The man has been remanded in custody and will appear in court on Monday, May 27 to answer to the charges against him.

Lancashire Telegraph:

A Burnley and Padiham Police spokesperson said: “This Berlingo was seen driving erratically in Burnley in the early hours of this morning (Saturday May 25).

“The Road Policing Unit's HT48 attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver decided he preferred not to speak to officers and led them on a chase through Cliviger and Burnley Wood, eventually abandoning alongside from Turf Moor following a well executed stinger deployment by HR95 of the Lancashire ARV.
