Driver arrested in Deltona after leading deputies on chase across county, sheriff's office says

DELTONA, Florida. – A man was arrested Friday in Deltona after leading law enforcement on a chase out of Seminole County, according to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office.

Timothy Strawter, 37, was arrested hours after jumping from the vehicle on a dirt road near Howland Boulevard that afternoon, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

Volusia County deputies had already been notified by the Seminole County Sheriff's Office that Strawter was headed toward their jurisdiction, according to the release. While searching the area off Howland Boulevard with at least one K-9 unit and assistance from Seminole's Alert One helicopter, the helicopter crew reported that Strawter ran into the backyard of a home in the 2500 block, the release said.

Residents of the home were uncooperative and left the scene while officers remained, protected in part by Volusia's BearCat armored SWAT vehicle, according to the release.

Body-worn camera video shared Saturday morning shows Volusia deputies calling Strawter, who emerges after several hours, follows orders and is handcuffed without further incident.

A search of the vehicle Strawter was driving revealed approximately 31 grams of cocaine and a Glock that had been reported stolen in Seminole County, according to the release.

Strawter faces charges of Fleeing from Law Enforcement with Disregard for Safety of Persons and Property, Driving on a Canceled, Suspended or Revoked License, Reckless Driving, Trafficking in Cocaine/Mixture of 28 grams to 150 kilograms, theft of a firearm, two counts of possession of a weapon by a state felon and three out-of-county charges, two of which stemmed from violation of probation warrants from Seminole County — apparently involving driving with a suspended license and tampering with an electronic monitoring device — while the other is a fugitive from justice charged out of Georgia, which investigators said is related to a probation violation regarding aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was being held without bail at the Volusia County Jail at the time of this report, according to the sheriff's office.

Additional charges against Strawter are pending in Seminole County, according to the release.
