Driver arrested after fleeing scene of fatal hit-and-run crash

One person is dead and another is in custody following a hit-and-run crash in Kansas City that occurred Saturday night. The Kansas City, Mo., Police Department said the fatal collision happened just before midnight June 8 at Independence and Chelsea avenues near Northeast Middle School. Police say the driver of a Ford Focus left a parking lot and ended up on the shoulder of Independence Avenue. This driver then struck a motorcycle traveling on the roadway, ejecting the driver from his bike. The unidentified driver of the motorcycle was taken to hospital, where he died a few hours later. Police say a witness to the crash followed the driver of the Ford Focus after he fled the scene of the crash. The witness then alerted police to his location and was arrested shortly after. KCPD says the driver of the Ford Focus is under investigation for DUI.

The Kansas City, Mo., Police Department said the fatal collision happened just before midnight June 8 at Independence and Chelsea avenues near Northeast Middle School.

Officers said the driver of a Ford Focus pulled out of a parking lot and onto the shoulder of Independence Avenue.

This concentration then struck a motorcycle which was traveling on the roadway, ejecting the driver from his bike. The unidentified driver of the motorcycle was taken to hospital, where he died a few hours later.

Police say a witness to the crash followed the driver of the Ford Focus after he fled the scene of the crash. The witness then alerted police to his location and was arrested shortly after.

KCPD says the driver of the Ford Focus is under investigation for DUI.
