Drive-by shooting involving teens is third shooting in 24 hours, Gulfport police say

Gulfport police arrested four juvenile suspects in a drive-by shooting that hit several cars — including an unmarked detective's vehicle — with gunfire, police said.

It was one of three shootings reported in this coastal Mississippi city in 24 hours.

Authorities responded around 5:30 p.m. to the 1300 block of Dedeaux Road after several cars and a residence were struck by gunfire, police said. No one was injured in the drive-by shooting, police said.

The four suspects exchanged gunfire again before fleeing the scene, police said.

Detectives at the scene witnessed part of the shooting, police said. The shots also struck an unmarked detective's vehicle.

Detectives pursued a car, identified another vehicle and arrested two 17-year-olds after a “brief, low-speed chase,” police said.

Police said they arrested another 17-year-old man and a 16-year-old man at a nearby residence.

Police charged a 17-year-old with four counts of drive-by shooting, a 17-year-old with four counts of drive-by shooting and one count of aggravated assault, and a third 17-year-old with three counts of drive-by shooting. driving and a 16-year-old on three counts of drive-by shooting and one count of aggravated assault.

It was the third shooting in Gulfport in 24 hours.

Two people were struck by gunfire Monday evening at an apartment complex in the 3300 block of 39th Avenue, police said. Those victims were “very uncooperative” and police have no leads, said Gulfport Police Sgt. » said Jason Ducre.

A 16-year-old also died Monday morning after a shooting in the 100 block of Darby Street. Police have not made any arrests in the case, Ducre said Tuesday morning.

The four juvenile suspects involved in the drive-by shooting were transported to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center with bonds set at $750,000 to $1,250,000, police said.

Ducre said it was unclear whether any of the shootings were related.
